10th friend I helped quit smoking

IMAG2332-01

Meet my 10th friend I helped quit smoking! Or rather meet his Ecig of choice, a mod by Joyetech. 3 weeks ago, he was smoking 2 packs a day, for like 20 years and I got worried because I heard he could not breathe normally and I simply do not want him to die of cancer. Even Darth Vader had a healthier way of breathing. So I did my thing, we spoke about it, I made him try my Ecig, we tried to learn some vaping tricks and voilà, he bought his Ecig and now is done with cigarettes.

I’m really happy because each friend I take away from analog cigarettes is, for me, a victory against cancer. So let’s remember some facts we (I) refused to process when we were smokers:

  • a cigarette has 7000 chemicals, hundreds are toxic, 69 of them give cancer
  • 1/2 tobacco smoker will die from a smoking related illness. Source: Cancer.org
  • Tobacco kills 6 million of people each year (5 million direct smokers, the rest of second-hand smoke). Source: World Health Organization

Of course we can pretend we choose our death but the reality is that cancer is a nasty death. Basically, your organs stop to function, it’s slow and painful, it can take years of pain and suffering. You can learn more about the physical symptoms in the last months before death on cancer.org: nearing end of life

So yes, since I’ve quit smoking myself, and I really never wanted to quit, I am more than happy to help others to quit. I’ll talk to my smoker friends, I’ll answer questions to strangers who ask me about Ecigs in the streets. I’ll take my friends to my vape shop and I will never ever ever stop, at my little level, fighting cancer.

On a side and personal note, I’m part of an association to fight cancer for 8 years now called Relay for Life. You’ll find this association in 20 countries and basically we raise awareness as prevention saves lives and raise funds for global research programs. So if you want to do something, go research read by yourself information about your local associations and do something. Something can be as little as helping a friend quit smoking.

PS: Darth Vader, no offense, I’m a big fan and I love of your breathing sound. It’s even my notification ringtone on my phone.
